IMSR hosts event in honor of C.K. Prahalad

On 20th April 2010, E-Lite, the E-Cell at IMSR, hosted a special event to honor the legacy of C.K. Prahalad. The event began with a memorial to Prahalad, which was followed by a video highlighting Prahalad’s work.

The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Satyajit Mujumdar, who has studied Prahalad’s work and spoke about the profound impact Prahalad has made on the world of business by pushing people to think innovatively. Dr. Mujumdar encouraged students in the audience to heed Prahalad’s wisdom and think about how they can beat their competitors in the business world by envisioning where the future will lead and being the ones to create the markets of the future.

Naveen Jha, Director of DCSE, spoke next about Prahalad’s insight on the bottom of the pyramid and how the concept has entered mainstream vocabulary around the world. Naveen highlighted that Prahalad’s work focused on India and played a major role in how the world views India as a land of opportunity.

The panel then had an interactive discussion with students about how corporations can cater to both low and high income clients by diversifying their products.

Genny King, a Sandbox Fellow with the Entrepreneurship Academy, shared some closing remarks on Prahalad’s profound insight on the bottom of the pyramid and how he revolutionized the way the world views the poor. Genny encouraged students to take advantage of the immense opportunities that lie in their home country and carry on Prahalad’s legacy by considering how they can use business strategies to alleviate poverty at the bottom of the pyramid.

E-Lite showed great initiative by taking this opportunity to honor a leader in the social entrepreneurship movement and host an enlightening discussion on some key issues in the field of entrepreneurship.
